Work ethics of your staff

October 11th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Workplace Thoughts

Managers often complain about work ethics of their staff. Its very seldom that you will see Manager talk about how good their team is. Most managers have this habit of treating people as Robots. Its sad but true.Recently during one of my client visits i came across a gem of a person. She is an excellent person to work with and at the end of the day works one on one with her team to build on their strenghts rather focus on their weaknesses.

As managers you need to realise that people are different and that they think differently. This is a good thing and if we work with differences we will find increased creativity and productivity. Its easier said than done but I have tried this within my team and though it can be frustrating i was able to identify if people are in the wrong seats of my bus or they were totally in the wrong bus.

Love your staff for the work they do and constantly provide feedback. Those who give you back the same love are in to stay for the bus ride come what may and those that don’t pretty much have decided to chose a different bus.

I wish you the very best, finally do remember the key to success is focus on each individuals strengths and not their weaknesses.

Currently I have a unique chance to look from a perspective at a team I know very well, just after their manager has changed. Unfortunately for the team the switch was from a manager who cared (or at least tried to do so) to the one who doesn’t give a damn when talking about his people.

Team performance has fallen flat on the face. People have started changing buses and soon the manager will have a lot of empty seats.

The interesting thing is: as far as people don’t know how it is with the good driver they think everyone drives the bus the same. But as far as they realize the difference 9 times out of ten they’ll choose the better driver even if the bus itself is a bit rusty.

My comment to Pawel Brodzinski: Thank you so much for this valuable feedback. I do agree it also depends on who is the driver of the bus. All the best and do well and wish your team all the best.
