How should one Network with people?
During my career i have been fortunate enough to meet people that actually want to keep in touch with me. There was an era when i would take things for granted and not keep in touch as i would be busy with my goals and plans that sending an email to say hi was not something i would do often. Over time when a few of us as friends setup a social community we realized the power of networking.
Here are some ways to keep in touch with people who actually add value in some shape in your life.
Don’t talk to people in the hope that they may do something for you. This is a superficial materialistic relationship, which is not going to last that long.
If you gel with someone and feel a connection no matter what job designation this person is make it a point to let the person know that you actually would love to keep in touch and also set the expectations right.
If you receive an email block time out to actually send an email back or if time is not your best friend do send a group email so that you have actually kept in touch.
If someone asks you for help and they are a no body do what you would do if they were a some body. Remember we are humans first and then what we make of ourselves. I am a strong believer that what goes around, comes around. Make an effort to assist someone because you want to not because you may receive something from doing this action.
Lastly if you are a social networking person and have too many virtual friends then its time to make sure you keep in touch with these friends as you never know who may be thinking of partnering with you in a venture or who may know of someone who could assist you.
The bottom line is be a human who keeps in touch with a person because you want to with no expectations. Its easier said than done but if you have read this post then hopefully i was able to speak to you in some way to change your life around.
