‘What are you doing for others?’ through the power of social media.
For this Weekend I urge you to reflect and ask yourself, what have you done for others with no expectations?
This week has been a heck of a sick week for me. Have been down with fever and a sore back and yet my world has been filled with social media and how to get back up on my two feet to get things moving. When i visited the Chiro this week for a few sessions we spoke about social media and what i do. When he heard Social Media the conversation went on and on about how he has been trying out techniques and how he practically thinks it is a mission.
Since he was an awesome Chiro and was in some way helping me get over the pain, i decided i needed to do my part and spoke about a few quick turn around things he could do to make his social profile a bit more appealing. His partner on the other hand, thought i was being helpful purely due to the fact that i wanted some work from this conversation e.g. social media consulting. I was a bit hurt at first as that was not my intention.
In the crazy world of social media that we live in we have forgotten the basics of human interaction. All we do is focus on grabbing or selling but not listening and giving.
In the words of Martin Luther King ” ‘What are you doing for others?’ I decided to think what I have done to give to people and not just take. I plan making this a part of me each day.
The Internet is powerful and a gift that we have, we need to use it well for the benefit of giving away good value to others. Unfortunately some of us are hell bent on polluting it.
What have I done this week:
- Nothing great, have whined the whole week about my health
- Have provided some tips to my readers through my blog posts
- Ways to beat your competition using social media channels – just be different
- How to Measure Social Media ROI(Return on Investment)
- How to Create Facebook Pages for your business
- Have booked an appointment with a client now a friend to run through his social media strategy with him
What can you do to make your fans and followers love you. Here are a few tips:
1. Give something to your fans that they would love you for and see how they will make your campaign go viral. Remember the Old Spice guy and his video went Viral all over the internet through Youtube
2. Your fans love to hear and see good quality posts. So frequency of posts on blogs, updates on Facebook, linkedin, twitter need to be just right. You cannot afford to be annoying or an introvert. Have at least 1 blog post and 2 status updates to begin with
3. Daily posting from Monday to Saturday is recommended. But remember quality is the key, you need to give to receive. if you don’t receive you are either too selfish or you need to have patience or you need to change your strategy.
4. Learn from your peers and leaders in the industry. Some classic facebook fan page examples
Starbucks : They have mastered the art of engagement. Observe their style for ideas.
Dell : They have adapted well on twitter and now are making their mark on Facebook too
Redbull: These guys have aggregated their twitter feeds in an amazing way. They not only pull their corporate twitter feed but also pull feeds from top athletes like skateboarders, Snowboarders, etc. They are allowing their fans to interact with some of the top athletes in the industry there by providing value and embedding their key branding message.
Pringles: See some of their Videos they are short and funny. That’s engagement right there.
5. Welcome others to comment on your status updates but asking questions
6. Teach others what you have learnt and above all be a friend.
So now it’s your turn, what have you done for others?
It would be interesting to share your thoughts either with me or with the whole world. The choice is yours.
That’s me signing off for this week. I thank you for encouraging me to write and make life in some ways meaningful. Love you guys. You make my world rock as always!!!!
