Google works on monetising Orkut in 2009

Google’s social networking platform, Orkut is in discussions with the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket to create brand positioning campaigns and even an IPL profile page for Orkut users. Mahesh Narayanan, senior industry manager, Google says around 10 entities, including FMCG, telecom and movie producers, will be the big-ticket advertisers for Orkut in 2009. The Indian advertising industry in 2008 drove an estimated 45 million internet subscribers advertising market to Rs 240 crore which is around US 55,713,382. Telcos to target social web a drive by Sony Ericsson

Antony Beswick from NZ is heading the initiative held by  technology giant Sony Ericsson to help telcos get a piece of the social web. At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Sony Ericsson unveiled a web-hosted "white label" portal. This white label application lets mobile network operators provide their own-branded social networking sites to allow their customers to upload photos and videos taken with camera phones to sites such as Facebook and Bebo.
