Have you made a Living will for your Virtual Life?
I had never thought about this but today while browsing the internet and coming across the article written by The Consumerist about the facebook incident it got me thinking. Well the article about facebook incident was that Stephanie Bemister lost her brother. She contacted facebook requesting to delete his profile as he was no longer living. Facebook did not agree to this and responded that it was their policy to keep dead members profile’s in a “memorialized” state. Consumerist put up a post regarding this and very shortly Facebook responded to Stephanie confirming that they have removed his profile. To address this issue facebook says that they are happy to close the account if the person identifies themselves as someone who should have that authority.
What’s still in question is the process by which Facebook shall determine which users are deceased, and how should this be confirmed. This is a topic which will evolve over time but it is thought provoking that a time have now come into our lives where we not only have to update our close ones about our assets and belonging of the real world but also about the virtual world.
Has life gotten too complicated afterall?
