Google’s social networking platform, Orkut is in discussions with the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket to create brand positioning campaigns and even an IPL profile page for Orkut users. Mahesh Narayanan, senior industry manager, Google says around 10 entities, including FMCG, telecom and movie producers, will be the big-ticket advertisers for Orkut in 2009. The Indian advertising industry in 2008 drove an estimated 45 million internet subscribers advertising market to Rs 240 crore which is around US 55,713,382. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry feels that by 2011 Indian would have touched Rs 2,500 crore which is around US 497,446,231.
