Work ethics of your staff
Managers often complain about work ethics of their staff. Its very seldom that you will see Manager talk about how good their team is. Most managers have this habit of treating people as Robots. Its sad but true.Recently during one of my client visits i came across a gem of a person. She is an excellent person to work with and at the end of the day works one on one with her team to build on their strenghts rather focus on their weaknesses. As managers you need to realise that people are different and that they think differently. This is

Office Gossip can be two faced!!! You agree??
The whole blah blah about trying to avoid office gossip is a tricky one. Having been a contractor or a consultant of some sort I guess I move in and out of projects and large Corporates. No matter how much you try one day or the other you get caught up with some kind of political gossip. It's strange but true for some reason people will talk to strangers about things they would not want their close friends and work mates to know. The back stabbing goes on in and out and avoiding this is utter stupidity. Continue

Learning to Work with Control Freaks
During one of my projects, I was introduced to a control freak - my definition a person who claims to be GOD. This post is for people working on projects that have to work along side control freaks or who self proclaim themselves as GOD. As a person I like things to be black or white and hate gray because you can never know when to draw the line. Anyways sometimes I guess life does not operate in this way. On this specific client project which was a dead project my role was to be the new Project Manager. TheBrowsing the Internet at work ?
If you are placed in an open plan office often times I have seen people try and keep their internet browsing activities minimal or try and shape their browser window so that their colleagues do not see them browsing. Does this sound familiar? You get the whole banning various websites by companies and then of course you have the few privileged admin rights staff who will have their msn / yahoo messenger on their computer and are busy chatting with friends under the pretext of work. Why should some staff have these privileges? Continue ReadingContractors or Salaried – Does it matter within a project
God this topic that has been buzzing around me for about a year now. Last night I had a dream of owning a company such as Google. Wow I wish that was reality. Anyways in this dream I saw one of my Product Managers pull up one of my so called contracting staff in this empire company of mine for chatting in the kitchen. The conversation was "Hey stop talking and do some work, I hope you are not billing us for this chit chatting session of yours". Even though it sounded as a joke, it was rather rude. BeingTeam Management the nice way
It's strange but true that people on a job like to be appreciated and loved. They all want a sense of belonging. Recently while working on a project I noticed for some god damn reason people from my team working on other projects would come up to me and confide in all work related issues. I would listen and give comments where I thought that I could add value such as where to go and find this or that information, etc. The one issue which stood out was about being part of a team and how the Team Manager wasAgile Business Analysts / Project Manager
A few months back when I was working on a project a thought cross my mind about, would a company require an Agile Business Analyst / Project Manager or a Person who had a combination skill of Both? A few years back, I would have said "No, you don't". Today for the web the whole development cycle has changed. You need to move fast and have flexibility. The objective of an Agile project is to provide maximum value to the client as soon as possible. It would be a dream come true if business users, developers, testers, management all agreed withWhat’s missing with Productivity?
Most problems with productivity today is because there are a few key issues (at least in my experience). These are:- If your organization portrays to be flexible, but the people complain day in and out about Change Request, how cumbersome the applications they work on are then don't put in an inflexible IT system and/or IT process. As having a non flexible IT process or system does not make you flexible.
- Process is good. Process is necessary. Create a process that allows for flexibility, speed and change. I have seen companies hire N number of Managers, be it a Programme manager, Test
